Damn You Catherine de' Medici!

While I may not boast the highest fashion sense or the most graceful walk of all of female kind, I can handle a pair of heels if I do say so myself. However when walking several blocks on a daily basis to my office it becomes almost painful to keep those work heels on and the temptation to walk barefoot grows. Then I realize that while DC is generally a very clean city, walking barefoot in its streets cannot be good for anyone's health. But I digress.

I would like to thank this woman for officially making my life hell. While one can applaud her politiking with the English crown in the 16th century I'd have to give a big thumbs down for the creation of the high heeled shoe. Who cares how short she was!?

Obviously Catherine meant no intentional harm to future generations of strong women in the workplace, but its hard to not be mad when beauty causes pain. The requirements of women in the workplace are difficult because not only do you have to be good at what you do, but there is the constant nagging of what to wear. I'm sure many ladies will agree, while a man can go to sleep at night and not spend a single second on what he is wearing, being a woman means picking that outfit out (at least in your head) the night before and waking up the next morning and making it work. (Thank you Tim Gunn for that) Then comes the requirements of variety, trying to not be seen in the same outfit too often and the inevitable decision of shoes. OMG shoes!

Well I guess its time to invest in some flats.

Its Thursday!
